Job Summary:
The estimator is responsible for the management and performance of all estimate related activities on a project. This includes leading the estimate during the project development phase, planning the estimate efforts, interfacing with estimate team members, estimating consolidation to final cost, leading the estimate conformance at award, kickoff and turnover to project controls, supporting change orders, control estimates and model estimates/closeouts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Pre-contract estimate development
- Understand contract requirements
- Lead estimating team including detail and discipline estimators
- Develop the estimate plan in accordance with the execution strategy and sales strategy
- Lead estimate kick off meeting
- Setup and maintain estimate files
- Communicate to detail/discipline Estimators the estimate objectives and other requirements
- Obtain and distribute to discipline Estimators the information required to develop estimate (labor rates, site conditions, scope, schedule, specifications, subcontract strategy, quote/bids, drawings)
- Coordinate with other team members to define and obtain information needed to estimate
- Set up estimate area/units and format cost accounting breakdown, as well as any client breakdown
- Ensure that the estimate efforts occur in a proper sequence, within the scheduled period and meet the requirements of the execution strategy, sales strategy, and contract
- Responsible for ensuring that the estimate is complete correct and accurate
- Document basis of estimate including qualifications
- Confirm that basis information is consistent with estimate accuracy requirements
- Responsible to ensure appropriate sections of proposal are reviewed for alignment between estimate and proposal
- Lead internal and management estimate reviews
- Lead any open book estimate reviews with client
- Control distribution of estimate documents
- Communicate basis of estimate to the project team
- Conform estimate to As Sold Contract Requirements
- Lead efforts in developing change order estimates, control estimates and model estimates
- Assist project controls in conforming the estimate to the project controls tools after contract award

- 2-Year Degree in Engineering, Business, Construction Management or related field highly desired
- 3-5 years of related work experience highly desired
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel
- Previous industry experience a plus
- Experience reading plans and specifications a big plus
- Experience in steel manufacturing, epoxy powder coating, or field bolted assembly construction highly desired/preferred
