Blastech and Brant always strive to have the most dynamic skill set in the industry; for that reason we continually train for improvement.
Representatives from International Paint came to the Brantford, Ontario location to teach a two-day in-class and hands-on seminar to learn the proper application of Chartek, a series of hydrocarbon fire protection coatings.
Chartek thick-film, high-build, epoxy intumescent coatings provide protection from corrosion and hydrocarbon fire. In a fire, the coating will char and swell to protect and delay the effects of heat which would compromise the integrity of the steel; this allows more time to safely escape the site and for responders to contain the fire.
The application of fire protection coatings, otherwise known as fireproofing, is suitable for a variety of onshore and offshore assets including drilling, tanks, structural steel, and piping.
Fireproofing is a very skilled application process and requires a great understanding of the project specifications as well as coating chemistry to ensure all safety requirements are met. Blastech and Brant have proven experience with many complex coatings; the completed Chartek training gives us Approved Applicator status and allows us a greater opportunity to accept a different scope of projects.
